Don’t worry Drew, I figured it out

by Russ ~ April 28th, 2009

So anyway, I could do the whole, sorry for my absence thing, say I’m going to be around more ect. but I think we’ll just skip it this time.  I will say there is a ripe harvest of blog materials out there in the world right now, and if I wasn’t habitually waking up at 2 in the afternoon, maybe I’d blog more than I have been.  Be the change you want in the world.  Somebody famous said that.  But anyways, I saw this news broadcast on youtube tonight, and I just can’t keep it to myself.  I am not familiar with the case in discussion, and it sounds like a very sad one, but but isn’t this one of the strangest video concepts ever? Reporter in the parking lot holding a cellphone up to a microphone? Whoever came up with that I’d like to shake their hand.  Its dark black comedic genius.

Melissa Huckaby phone interview CBS 5 News about Sandra Cantu

WAIT A SECOND!!! did he trick her?  Is that what this is?  He didn’t tell her she was on speakerphone.  Or am I losing it?  This shit is nuts.

Russ and Dick El Demasiado

by Andrew ~ April 4th, 2009

Still early in my Buenos Aires extravaganza, I’ve seen good things. Dick El Demasiado, the Dutchman, has a strange, and worthy take on Cumbia. ¿Cumbia Villera? ¿Cumbia Experimental?

Tina Fey Wins

by Andrew ~ February 5th, 2009

Oh, Tina. I’ve said it about Lil Wayne, and I’ll say it about Tina Fey. Usually, there is a see-saw relationship between quality and popularity. When things are widely popular it means there’s been too many cooks with dirty hands in the kitchen for anything to come out right. When things are good, they are often under-appreciated and obscure. But ever so often, when you least expect it, something that is really good, gets really popular. Like the Beatles, or Seinfeld or Obama. In these special instances, what is great is rewarded with proportional praise and success. With “30 Rock,” I don’t have to wonder what everyone sees in “How I Met Your Mother,” and when people say (usually with their mouth full) “I don’t watch TV ’cause TV sucks,” 30 Rock must be cited as an exception. Like Woody Allen, Oranges, jacuzzis and Sade’s singing voice, somethings are inherently good.
